The trip of a lifetime.

What can you do with three weeks?

Three weeks changes the way you travel.

You’re no longer trying to fit a country into an annual leave window. You can cross regions, combine destinations, take slower routes and build a journey around the experiences you’ve always dreamed about.

For someone with a full-time job, three weeks is a significant amount of annual leave, which is exactly why these are destinations where I think the extra time is genuinely worth it.

This isn’t simply a list of places where you could spend 21 days. It’s about destinations where three weeks unlocks a much bigger experience than you could realistically have in 7 or 14 days.

These are some of our favourites, not an exhaustive list. Use them as inspiration for the trips that are worth saving your annual leave for.

Which trip of a lifetime is calling you?

From futuristic cities to ancient temples and mountain villages

Three weeks gives you the freedom to experience Japan beyond the classic Tokyo–Kyoto route.

Follow the country’s famous highlights, then venture further into the Japanese Alps, Hiroshima, Miyajima or the countryside. You can slow down, take scenic trains and give yourself time to simply explore.

From Sydney to the Outback

Australia is one of the clearest examples of why three weeks can make such a difference. Start in Sydney before heading north towards the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsundays, then venture inland to Uluru for a completely different side of the country.

The ultimate American road trip

This is the kind of journey where the road itself becomes part of the adventure.

Combine California’s cities and coastline with some of America’s most spectacular national parks, from Yosemite and Death Valley to Zion and the Grand Canyon.

Volcanoes, temples, jungle & tropical islands

Indonesia becomes a completely different trip when you have three weeks.

Start in Java for ancient temples and volcanic landscapes, slow down in Bali, head to Lombok for mountains and beaches, then finish among the extraordinary islands of Komodo.

Island-hopping in the middle of the Pacific

French Polynesia is the kind of destination that deserves more than a rushed week on one island.

Combine Tahiti and Moorea with the iconic lagoons of Bora Bora, then venture further into the Tuamotus for a more remote side of French Polynesia.

A country that feels like several trips in one

Brazil is enormous, and three weeks barely scratches the surface. But it gives you enough time to experience several completely different sides of the country.

Start with Rio’s beaches and mountains, visit the extraordinary Iguazu Falls, venture into the Amazon and finish on the coast of Bahia.

The full Vietnamese adventure

If 14 days is perfect for exploring northern and central Vietnam, three weeks allows you to go all the way from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

Travel through dramatic mountains, ancient towns, rice terraces, beaches and bustling cities before finishing in the Mekong Delta.

From alpine adventures to tropical islands

Why choose between an adventure trip and a tropical escape when you can have both?

Spend the first part of your trip exploring New Zealand’s spectacular South Island before flying to Fiji to finish with warm water, coral reefs and island life.

The wildest landscapes at the end of the world

Patagonia is one of those places where the journey is almost as memorable as the destination.

Cross between Argentina and Chile to experience glaciers, mountains, turquoise lakes and some of the most dramatic landscapes on the planet.

Three countries, one extraordinary adventure

If you’re going to save three weeks of annual leave for one trip, this is the kind of journey that makes it worthwhile.

Combine South Africa’s landscapes and wildlife with the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the extraordinary desert scenery of Namibia.

Don’t confuse more time with more destinations

Three weeks doesn’t mean you need ten stops. Sometimes the best trip is one country explored deeply.

Embrace the journey

At this length, you can afford to take a scenic train, drive a longer route or spend an extra night somewhere simply because you love it.

Combine different experiences

The best three-week trips have a rhythm. Cities, nature, adventure, slower days, then something unforgettable.

Allow for the unexpected
Make it a trip you’ll remember

Not ready to use three weeks?

You don’t need a month away to see the world.

Whether you have 3 days, 5 days, 7 days, 10 days or 14 days, there’s a destination that can make your annual leave feel like a much bigger adventure.
